Eli YaminThe Different Moods of the Blues welcomes audiences of all ages into the varied and rich world of America's primary musical art form, the blues. The band explores the range and healing power of the blues -- from spiritual to classical, from bebop to folk.

The performance begins with the traditional spiritual, Trouble of the World, sung a cappella by Kate McGarry, followed by a joyful rendition of Fishin' Blues inspired by Taj Mahal. Bob Stewart's virtuosity and expressive power on tuba comes into focus on Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo and the quartet cuts loose with a dramatic up to date version of the 19th century ballad John Henry. Great classic blues hits are featured with After Hours and The Night Time is the Right Time. The program closes with Eli's own Healing Song, which has audiences singing along about the healing power of the blues.

In 2004-2005 the quartet performed over 50 concerts in the New York Metropolitan Area. Wide ranging venues included Lincoln Center For the Performing Arts, jazz clubs, universities and elementary and high schools. In 2006-2007, performances include the WBGO children's concert series at The New School of Social Research, the Viscardi School for Children With Severe Disabilities and concerts at Flushing Town Hall.

"I really loved your concert. I loved when we sang together. I was also surprised to see a woman playing the drums. I can't believe that a woman can play the drums. I learned that the blues music doesn't have to be unhappy, it can be about hope and love."
~ Rhaydiris Santos, Gregorio Luperon High School
